How fortuitous for the start of March, Women's History Month. Writer and poet Sue Cowing recently introduced me to two wonderful biographies: one about a famous woman painter, the other about a grandmother.

The two books are excellent examples of biographies written for children. They combine pictures and words to create a story that engages the child.

It is a story that does what no adult biography or encyclopedia article can do: sing a song of a life lived; paint a portrait for us all to see.
