Thant Myint-U (Burmese: သန့်မြင့်ဦး[θa̰ɰ̃mjɪ̰ɰ̃ʔú]; born 31 January 1966) is a Burmese-American historian, writer, grandson of former United Nations Secretary-GeneralU Thant, former UN official, former Myanmar peace process mediator, and an Honorary Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge.[1] He has authored five books, including The River of Lost Footsteps: A Personal History of Burma and Where China Meets India: Burma and the New Crossroads of Asia.[2][3][4] He founded the Yangon Heritage Trust in 2012 to protect built heritage and promote urban planning in the Burmese commercial capital of Yangon.[5] He is also a Distinguished Visiting Scholar at Christ's College, Cambridge and United Nations Special Adviser on Humanitarian Diplomacy.[6][7]
