Ion Llewellyn IdriessOBE (20 September 6 June ) was a prolific and influential Australian author.[1] He wrote more than 50 books over 43 years between and – an average of one book every 10 months, and twice published three books in one year ( and ).
His first book was Madman's Island, published in at the age of 38, and his last was written at the age of Called Challenge of the North, it told of Idriess's ideas for developing the north of Australia.[2]
Two of his works, The Cattle King () and Flynn of the Inland () had more than forty reprintings.[2]
Biography
Early years
Idriess was born in Waverley, a suburb of Sydney, to Juliette Windeyer (who had been born as Juliette Edmunds in at Binalong) and Walter Owen Idriess (a sheriff's officer born in , who had emigrated from Dolgellau, in Wales).
